Companies who hire employees have a responsibility to protect the safety and well being of their workers. The North Carolina Workers Compensation Lawyers with HensonFuerst explain any failure to do so can result in costly legal action being taken against the employer by those who were harmed as a result of their alleged negligence.
Take, for instance, the case of a Sanford, North Carolina, recycling center that was recently fined by the state for safety violations which resulted in a fatal accident at the facility. An article from WRAL News states the incident occurred August 26 at the Lee Iron and Metal Co., located on South Horner Boulevard.
Reports indicate the 50-year-old victim was operating a forklift when the machine accidentally struck a shelving unit, knocking a bale of copper wiring weighing thousands of pounds loose from a stack, which then fell on top of the worker. The impact caused the victim to suffer severe injuries that claimed his life at the scene.
The state Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration investigated the incident and determined the company had failed to properly and safely secure the bundles, resulting in a fine of $3,500.
HensonFuerst and their team of North Carolina Personal Injury Lawyers are aware of how difficult it can be to lose a loved one to an unforeseen work-related accident and the firm would like to send their condolences to the family of the worker who was recently killed.
