Family members place their trust in nursing homes to provide their loved ones with the highest quality care and respect. All too often, however, we find that nursing homes do not hold themselves to the highest standards and residents are put in harm’s way.
Sometimes, it can be difficult to detect whether a loved one is being properly cared for at a facility. A tool known as the Nursing Home Inspect, developed by ProPublica, serves as a resource for the public to easily compare nursing homes across the United States in an array of areas including:
- The number of deficiencies cited by regulators in the past three inspection cycles
- The number of serious deficiencies per home (deficiencies in which patients were put at immediate risk of harm)
- The number and amount of fines imposed
- How often the government has suspended payments to the home for new patients
The reports on this tool are based on data provided by U.S. Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, however relay the information in an easy to understand way.
If you are curious to find out the Nursing Home Inspect report of a nursing home your loved one is residing in, you may access the tool here.
